Happy Birthday to my E39!

Almost missed an important Anniversary of my 528i! According to my VIN decoder it came off the assembly line in Dingolfing on the 15th of May 1996, which means it turned 20 last Sunday! That also means I now only own cars that are at least 20 years old! Unfortunately the car is at my parents house at the moment, I won’t have it back before sometime next month. It will finally receive a new set of wheels (M-Parallels) and an M-sport rearbumper soon though, which will make it even more awesome.

Still looks pretty good for its age I must say. Happy Birthday!

Definitely plan to keep it. With the current market values at rock bottom and considering the money that went into it so far, I would never get what I think its worth to me anyways. :)

There comes a point where you’ll never get back what you put into it but for most if not all of us it’s more the sentimental value of the car than the monetary value of the car.

Oh, I passed that point with both my Mark VIII and E39 a long time ago :D Now that I didn’t see the bimmer for a few weeks I’m starting to understand what I would miss, should I ever sell it. It’ll stay with me forever.

I think mine is an 11/2001 build. They have aged well. We were out for lunch yesterday with her co-workers who said some folks were checking it out in the parking lot and we remarked how even today they look good still and hide their age

Definitely one of BMWs greatest designs. I don’t know too many other sedans with designs as coherent as that of the E39. I like everything about it, with the exception of the facelift non-sport frontbumper, that air intake and those round fog lights just look out of place.
